This is it!

th-10

Seventy years are given to us!
    Some even reach eighty.
But even the best of these years
    are filled with pain and trouble;
soon they disappear, and we are gone.  Psalms 90:10

You were hoping for something a little better? So was I. But this is it. And the sooner we make peace with this, the better. Then we don’t waste time waiting … hoping for something that probably will never come. So this is the way it’s supposed to be? Well then, let’s get on with it.

This is where our relative affluence hurts us. We have the means and resources to alleviate at least some of the pain and trouble in life, which then leads to the illusion that we must be able to eventually get rid of it all.

You can waste a lot of time trying to alleviate pain and trouble when a certain amount of it is standard procedure anyway. If you’re going to spend any time alleviating pain and trouble, make it someone else’s pain and trouble you seek to ease.

Don’t focus on making your own life better; focus on introducing someone else to the one who can give them life eternal.

When the Lord comes back, don’t make Him find us overwhelmed with worries related to this life. Be overwhelmed with God. Be overwhelmed with grace. Be overwhelmed with love for your neighbors. Be overwhelmed with the beauty He has created in nature, and in people. Be overwhelmed with life that eclipses all our pain and trouble.

Someone asked Billy Graham what has been the most remarkable thing about his life, and he answered the fact that it goes by so quickly. I was surprised at that. That would have been way down the list of things I would have thought he would say. But come to think of it, didn’t all of his messages come with a sense of urgency? Wasn’t he always preaching as if it were his last sermon? Wasn’t he always making sure he was telling everybody the most important thing he could tell them? Didn’t it feel like that when he said it? That’s because it was.

So let’s cast off whatever it is that’s slowing us up and get busy doing what we’re supposed to be doing.

Which is?

Loving people.
Spreading the gospel.
Bringing people together instead of apart.
Getting over our differences.
Making peace.
Easing someone else’s pain.
Going the extra mile.
Feeding the hungry.
Giving to the poor.
Introducing people to Jesus.

It’s really not that difficult.

Come on you guys. What you’ve got is what you’ve been given. Let’s get up and get going. In fact, let’s get up and dance!

Dance!
Words and music by John Fischer

Dance!
Let the Spirit set you free
You can dance
To the Lord of life
Dance!
Sanctify the circumstance
Come on dance
To the Lord of life

Don’t have to dress up
There’s no place to go
Don’t need no lessons
This ain’t no show
This is life.
This is what it’s supposed to be
This is God
Loving you and me

Oh dance!
Let the Spirit set you free
You can dance
To the Lord of life
Dance!
Sanctify the circumstance
Come on dance
To the Lord of life

Time is a treasure
Worth more than gold
Life is a moment
That no one can hold
Love will win over
If you give it a chance
The song will be over
So come on get up and dance

Oh dance!
Let the Spirit set you free
You can dance
To the Lord of life
Dance!
Sanctify the circumstance
Come on dance
To the Lord of life

Dance in the good times
And dance through the bad
Dance as if this time
Was all that you had
And when it’s all over
And it’s all just begun
Well be dancing forever
In the light of the Son

Oh dance!
Let the Spirit set you free
You can dance
To the Lord of life
Dance!
Sanctify the circumstance
Come on dance
To the Lord of life
