A different kind of church

The Catch is a place where believing is not necessary for belonging. We have people at various stages of belief and unbelief. If you are on the journey, you may walk with us. Belief is not the absence of doubt, anyway; it’s a direction we are all going. Along the way, we entertain all questions, in fact, we love questions. Questions mean someone is thinking. Blind faith is not part of our agenda. We advocate a seeing faith — not that we see everything, but we see enough to believe, and the more we see, the more we get, and the better our eyesight becomes.

The Catch is not a sin-management program. We are not trying to get people off sin; we are getting people on Grace. Our goal is not to be better people, but to follow Christ. If that make us better people, so be it, but that is not what we are trying to be. More than anything, we are trying to be honest. It is much better to be honest with our sin than to pretend we don’t have any. We’ve had enough of religious environments that live by the unspoken rule: you don’t show me your sin; I won’t show you mine. Here, we can talk about anything because we are under the cover of God’s grace and there is nothing it can’t cover.

Our message is for everyone. We are Grace Turned Outward. We are the message. That’s why our job is to walk alongside you, and you alongside us. That’s how the message gets out.

[NOTE: To experience this kind of fellowship, join us for church at http://www.facebook.com/thecatch at 6pm PST every Sunday. Yes, we’re having church online. Marti and I are live on video: you can post your comments or questions immediately where we all can see. It’s a little different, but it’s dialogue. We sing, share our concerns, pray for each other, and hear some teaching from the Word — everything you would expect from church and then some, because you rarely get any dialogue in church.]
