Aaah, little GTO

th

In the beginning ….

…. there was the Pontiac V8 GTO. First released in 1963, a special, high-performance model that appealed to a speed-minded young woman, Shar’i who was ready to go turnin’ it on, burnin’ it out, and she hasn’t stopped since. Her entire life represents “turn it on, wind it up, blow it out, GTO” — only instead of Gran Turismo Omologato, Italian for homologated for racing in the GT class that inspired the Ferrari 250 GTO, Shar’i’s GTO could only mean one thing: Grace Turned Outward.

No little old lady from Pasadena driving a super stock Dodge, Shar’i is a V8 rated, two speed (fast and sleep), powerful woman — a wild ride.

GTO is Grace Turned Outward

As early as 1964, God clocked Shar’i and her GTO at 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, through the standing quarter mile in 14.8 seconds with a trap speed of 99 mph.  It is said Shar’i could have reach 165 mph without the speed limiters, but that hasn’t been confirmed.

th-1Recorded as the fastest lap during qualifying, Shar’i and her driver JJ started the race with the Catch Ministry’s pole in 2008, running at racing speed on the course and soon placed as the ministry’s church Elders. With multiple left and right hand turns, they have run at or near racing speed on the course the Lord has placed before all of us on the Catch’s race team.  When taking their place as Catch Ministry Prayer Warriors, Shar’i wrote:

“After much prayer before we offered our services, we can truly, reverently, spiritually, and graciously say: we are yours forever on this journey. We know the Lord wants us to be used by, in, and for this Catch Ministry. We felt the tap on the shoulder months ago, and wanted to make certain we were hearing what we thought we were hearing. When we realized it was a “go” and we needed to step up, we did.  I mean, I remember a man named Jonah, a town called Nineveh, and a BIG whale! We’ve learned not to tell God ‘No.’  So Praise the Lord and let’s get started!”

As Prayer Warriors and always traveling in heavy traffic after the enemy, Shar’i’s air filter began clogging, affecting her overall performance. For a very long time, her engine compensated for lower amounts of oxygen by consuming more fuel to produce sufficient power.

Having recently celebrated his 82nd birthday,  JJ began noticing that her engine was mis-firing; her spark was fading and she didn’t start up as easily as he was use to.  When her ‘Check Engine Light’ turned on, JJ drove her to their mechanic whose diagnosis found an inadequate air filter.

Now on  a maintenance schedule with multiple trips to the mechanic, Shar’i is experiencing a smoother rotation of her engine with less coughing or popping sounds. However, the results of her clogged air filter have greatly limited her acceleration. The good news is her spark plugs are not damaged.

Thanks to your generous contributions, we are going to see her on a road course again with a new set of wheels so that Shar’i and JJ can continue to faithfully pray for the Catch Ministry, its Community and Citizens, as they have been, by name. She still has plenty of style, beating the gassers and the rail jobs, drives ’em wild.

“C’mon,” you can hear Shar’i shout, “turn it on, wind it up, blow it out, GTO!”

Yeah, yeah, little GTO23227

Go, Shar’i go — Grace Turned Outward

If you go to www.spinlife.com to power chairs on the drop down, you will see the chair you are providing our Racing Legends. It’s light enough for JJ to take apart and load in the car. It is the Lite Rider Envy — an appropriate name if ever there was one!

We are almost at the Finish Line.

Little GTO

by Ronnie and Daytonas

You’re really lookin’ fine
Three deuces and a four-speed
And a three-eighty-nine
Listen to her tachin’ up now
Listen to her whine
C’mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out, GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Aaah, little GTO

You oughta see her on a road course
Or a quarter mile
This little modified Pon-Pon
Has got plenty of style
She beats the gassers and the rail jobs
Really drives ’em wild
C’mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out, GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Aaah, little GTO

Gonna save all my money
And buy a GTO (turnin’ it on blowin’ it out)
Get a helmet and a roll bar
And I’ll be ready to go (turnin’ it on, blowin’ it out)
Take it out to Pomona
And let ’em know, yeah yeah (turnin’ it on blowin’ it out)
That I’m the coolest thing around
Little buddy, gonna shut you down
When I turn it on, wind it up, blow it out, GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Yeah, yeah, little GTO
Aaah, little GTO

All my love to JJ & Shar’i our GTO racers & prayer pillow partners! I love my prayer pillow!!!

PS a buddy of mine had the same scooter, he likes it so he can take it apart and ride it into the stadium to watch the Detroit Tigers play baseball. 🙂 ❤
